Afternoon at the museum

We took the boys to the Children's Museum at the Gateway today. It turned out to be two-dollar off Tuesday, so we joined the discount crowd along with two elementary schools of children at the museum. In spite of the fact that it would have been easier if there had been 200 fewer children there, we had a great time. The boys probably need to be five or six years older to really appreciate it, which is parent code for saying that the parents wished the children wanted to spend more time in the neat storytelling and media stations for older children.

Simon was just thrilled to have colorful balls to play with. He didn't care they were in a museum. Parents take children to museums so they can play with the same toys they would play with at home, but in a more educational setting.

Ben had a great time playing in the balls, but he was mostly confused by the construction zone area. He went back to the balls, and spent half an hour feeding balls into a vacuum tube that sucked the balls away. Tons of fun!

There was a baby area where Simon got to play.

In between crowds of elementary school kids, Ben finally got a chance to play at the water station. He wore the smallest smock they had, which was huge on him. Splash!

Once Simon saw his brother playing in the water, he demanded to play in the water too. We took his shirt off and he had a great time splashing around.

Simon was delighted to discover a little bitty Simon-sized slide in the area reserved for bitty kids.

WWEEEEEeeee! Looks like fun! It is nice to see Melinda in some of the pictures! Well, for that matter it is nice to see Dirk in some of the pictures too. I especially loved Simon's smile with the balls. So exciting!

How fun, they both seem to be really enjoying themselves, even if being older would have been nicer for the parents. We have wondered about going there for some time, if is pretty expensive, and haven't made it since it opened.

It was so fun to see you all today. Afterwards I thought ...I didn't grab Ben and tickle his belly ... I let him stay distant - but my mind was on getting the wheat in cans and I forgot about being a grandma. Bad me!
