I've been tidying up since Dirk left. Sifting through the pile on his dresser yielded normal items, like a bucket of spare change, random cough drops (wrapped and unwrapped), pants, socks, belts, padlocks, keys and sample sizes of lotion. There were also a few unusual items, like bullets, a plastic canvas friendship thingy, smoke bombs, and glow-in-the-dark stars. But the most puzzling item I found was a six pound sack of cement. Because every man needs a small bag of cement for his dresser . . .

Finish the story dear. Who bought said bag of cement? And What was it for?
Uh oh...and here I thought we were telling secrets about Dirk and he didn't even know it! :)
Oh Da, I forgot to tell you about the firecrackers I found three rows back under the books on one of Dirk's shelves. Maybe he was hiding them/saving them for later?
He didn't want the dresser to blow away in case you had a hurricane, because then he might have lost his money bucket. Oh and does that "Dear" in Dirks reply sound less than deary?
Well you never know when you might need to patch a hole in the driveway! ;)
Oh and Kecia, inquiring minds want to know-what were you doing searching through Dirks bookshelf?
Lastly, Dirk spill the beans. Why did you have a bag of cement on your dresser?
Confession: We did figure out what the cement was from. It was a kit to make a stepping stone for your garden with your kid's footprints in it. Dirk never got around to it. By the time I found the bag of cement, I'd already thrown out everything else in the kit (which was scattered in various places across the dresser), so I was puzzled about it for a while.
Kecia - you can keep the firecrackers. :)
It's not that I never got around to it. Once I read the instructions I had no desire to deal with a "project that required not one but two applications of cement to accomplish. Why I left it on the dresser I don't know, but Da was the one who originally purchased the kit.
And those firecrackers were from dad. Feel free to use em Kec.
What are you doing online in the middle of the day?
And thanks for the birthday card! It came today, or maybe yesterday, or the day before. I think it's been a while since I emptied the mailbox. :)
This is definitely going to be an interesting year - dirk to da to family to da and back to dirk again! And I have front row seats!
Oh I left the firecrackers there...I'm not sure why...I guess I wasn't thinking at the moment.
Marz - I was looking through dirk's books to borrow them of course! I figure he won't be needing them for a bit.
Why would bullets be an unusual item? Doesn't everyone keep boxes of bullets in their sock drawer, plus the occasional loose round that just happened to end up on a shelf or behind a dresser?
