It was a sad, sad day the last time I pulled up to the pump. It cost me $50 to fill up the gas tank. I've been filling the tank before it got really empty to avoid the $50 mark. It's been $49.87 and $49.03, but it hasn't rolled over that fateful number. It's just so sad to spend half a hundred for a tank of gas in a car that cost me less than $25 to fill it back when I bought it.
Maybe I should fill the tank as soon as the gas gauge reads 3/4. That way I could avoid that $50 mark again. Yeah! That would work! Look at me figure out a way to make gas cheaper!
And you know what ticked me off? I pulled into a gas station that advertised gas as $4.17 per gallon, and the pump said it was $4.23 per gallon. So I drove to another gas station, thinking I would at least buy from someone who had their real price posted. No luck. They did the same thing. The sign said $4.17, and the pump said $4.23. Creepy gas station people ought to at least be honest about how much they're gouging out of us. *grumble*
When did you hit the $50 milestone? Or are you trying to avoid the $75 milestone and think I'm whiney for complaining about a $50 tank? If so, you have my sympathy.

I am trying to avoid the $75 gas bill. I don't let my tank get too low either but it is still very painful.
I hit the big 50 yesterday for the first time...in my little CRV!! It only has a 13 gallon tank for Heavens sake! But I had it low....it took 12.68 gallons of gas - almost on fumes!!
I decided yesterday I wasn't going to drive it ANYWHERE...but that didn't last long as I'm headed to Utah County tomorrow!
And it took $100 to fill up our double tanked truck for our trip to the Tetons! Good thing we'd been saving for the trip!
Hi Melinda...I am blog hopping and came across yours..just wanted to comment on your $4.17/$4.23 problem. What some gas stations are doing now is charging the lower price on the sign ($4.17) if you are paying CASH..if you look really close at the small print on the big price signs, sometimes they will say "cash" beside the price. Now if you are paying with your credit card at the pump you will be charged $.05 more to cover credit card fees. CRAZY!!! I know. It just seems like it never ends. We always fill up at Costco. It always seems to be a least 10-15 cents less expensive than the other stations and they don't charge the added fee. I was talking with Abby (my oldest daughter) the other day about when she was born we filled up our little honda civic for under $10. Now it would be 4x that...what can we do?? I like your 3/4 tank strategy..I may try that:)

Well, I have to say that I hit the $350 milestone about a month ago. Of course, I was filling two Durangos and a boat, but still, it was really painful. That was for our trip up to Stone. I pulled the camp trailer behind my Durango, and Kris pulled the boat behind her sister's Durango.
With the price of gas, boating has gotten really expensive. Oh, well, that's what debt is for!
I can't complain much about my $40 fill up recently... Chuck's avalanche was about $125 the last time he got a full tank, ouch! I'm going to tell him your idea of only buying 3/4 tank- maybe that will keep him from being so grumpy about it!
I am sick about the cost of gas right now, along with you. I remember when we first moved here (9 years ago) I remember distinctly the gas on the corner reaching under a dollar (I think it was 99 cents). I remember thinking how cool it was to see gas for under a dollar, little did I know how bad it would be!! My mom noticed the same thing about the price on the sign and the price at the pump. What a rip off- if they give a cash discount they certainly don't advertise it!!
