I got both boys down for naps at the same time, and decided to take advantage of the peace and quiet to turn some rotten bananas into banana bread. We'll leave out the details, and just say that the smoke alarm went off.
When the kitchen smoke alarm goes off, every smoke alarm in the house goes off -- loud, high-pitched, and insistent. There isn't a fast way to turn off the smoke alarm. The beeping turns off only when the smoke goes away. We'll leave out the explanation of why I know that. So I opened the windows and started fanning the smoke alarm to disperse the smoke around it.
Blessed silence. I braced for a couple hollers from upstairs. Nothing. Just more blessed silence.
I don't know whether to be happy the smoke alarm didn't wake up the boys, or be worried that smoke alarms don't wake up the boys.

The smoke alarms don't have to wake up the boys - just you!! So don't worry about it. They have mom to pull them to safety!
Its nice to know that your few minutes of 'me time' won't be ruined by loud noises!!
A true mom -- using kiddo nap time to "do something" rather than rest -- (like is commonly suggested by the male population!) Susan is right though, as long as you hear it, that's all that counts. The dumb thing is, some day if a dog barks or you sneeze, that'll wake up one of them, but a fire alarm or train whistle may do nothing. Crazy!
I agree with your mom. What were you doing cooking on your "me" time. I would have been reading, watching a movie, or napping too. Well probably not. I probably would have been cleaning, because then they wouldn't be following right behind and messing up again, and then look at it and say "Finally for 20 minutes it is clean!"
I can't nap during their naptime or I can't sleep at night. So I alternate between cooking, cleaning and playing on the computer. Frequently, I manage to do all three of those things in one nap time.
Just for the record Kristanne -- I'm not Da's mom! ;-) (no offense Da!) My title is just "the mom"! Glad to hear about Simon sleeping so long. Glorious day!
You know Melinda, at least you didn't have to put out a fire in the oven. That really stinks!
